The following presentation uses all 10 Active Listening Skills presented in our readings.  Attention was paid in the attached video to eye contact, distractions, giving full attention to the speaker, listening for understanding, acknowledgement of what was said, and smiling appropriately.
The questioner listened for both fact and feeling and commented positively.  He let the teachers talk and didn't interrupt them.  His questions were open-ended and were very effective as they elicited different responses from the teachers.  The questioner was not judgmental and was open to accepting the teachers' responses.
The focus group was effective as it resulted in varied and relevant answers to the questions.

Comparison

The two teachers do not expect a coach to be an Instructional Coach as neither one mentions wanting the coach to model a lesson.  They seem to be confident in their knowledge of subject matter as they did not ask for help in that area.  They seem to want help with using their own abilities to improve instruction or a Cognitive Coaching approach with an open, trusting relationship that results in more autonomy, efficacy and self-awareness.  They want to be moved from where they are to where they want to be.  One wants to improve her teaching style not just be shown someone else's.  The other specifically asked for frank communication that could include both positive and negative comments.  One also talked about working well with her coach trusting that the coach could help her be successful using the best practices.
